Vakhtang Jandieri, MARIE guest researcher, and Daniel Erni, PI, both associated to MARIE Project M03, are part of the international research team behind a cover article in Advanced Optical Materials (April 2026). The article “Photonics of Topological Magnetic Textures” investigates the photonic response of complex magnetic structures. Topologically nontrivial magnetic textures (arrows) can mold impinging electromagnetic waves, endowing them with local chirality, spin, and orbital angular momentum. The characteristics of the scattered waves directly reflect the underlying geometry and topology of the magnetic order.
By developing a self-consistent theoretical framework and numerical approach, the study demonstrates how these photonic signatures, including those arising from point-like singularities such as Bloch points, can serve as fingerprints of the magnetic texture. The findings highlight the potential of magnetic topological textures as functional elements for controlling photonic fields and enabling novel applications in photonics and sensing.
